CT Geographic Alliance Meeting

Dear Colleagues in Geography,

As many of you may know,  Central Connecticut State University, Department of Geography has now taken over coordination of the CT Geographic Alliance.

The contract was signed in December 2016 but it has taken a while to relocate offices and set up financial procedures. During this time, many existing and new initiatives have come on to the calendar. Amongst these are:

  • Use of the Giant maps (CT and USA)
  • The Bio Blitz
  • Ongoing Professional Development Workshops
  • Esri’s ArcGIS Online competition for HS+MS
  • ROV Workshop
  • The Middle School Geographic Bee and HS Geographic Challenge
  • National Geographic’s new initiative: The Geo-Inquiry Process

o   which includes selection of two teachers to go to D.C in June for a training session (expenses and stipend paid.)

o   Selection of 20 teachers to continue the initiative in 2018

  • Our response to the inclusion of geography into the Grade six and grade seven curriculum
  • Strengthening partnerships
  • Fundraising
  • National Geographic Education Certificate

The overall factor linking the above will be the expenditure of the existing 2016-17 budget ($ 27,500) and the new 2017-18 budget, which I must prepare before April 15.

As a strong supporter of the alliance, now and in the past, I would greatly value your input to these, and other initiatives you might suggest, so, accordingly, I have scheduled a planning/steering committee meeting for:

Saturday, March 25th, from 9am-12pm, here at CCSU (Room location to be advised once we know numbers along with a formal agenda).

Coffee and Danishes will be from 8:30-9.00, and a light lunch will be available after 12.00.

All are welcome and I sincerely hope you can join us.

Please RSVP by March 20th at following link:

Any other questions or concerns, you may contact the CT Alliance Office Manager Ashley Stephens at: st_as3129@ccsu.edu  Thank you and I look forward to seeing you that day.
